Homeland Day 2

Dear odyssean followers,

First a word of advice, stay in school ( or at the very least finish high school). I have just started Homeland and already I have had to Google audio versions of it just so I can pronounce the words correctly. ( if I did not do that, then I would have internal dialogue arguments that wouldn't cease and no reading would be done). Mind you the words I had trouble with were names and places, but still I knew deep down inside that Menzobarrenzan was not likely pronounced "men's bras and sand".

After battling my way through the jungle of pronunciation, I was finally able to dive into the book. I had to go through a whole sociology course about the drow, their customs, beliefs and an explanation for their way of debauchery before the story really began. Aside from my troubles with pronouncing names, places and things the story has been very exciting. It jumps right into some backstabbing and kicking people while they are down. Yet that seems to be the downfall for me too.

I usually devour this stuff, but when it is expected by almost every character it becomes over satiating and I am now looking to quell my appetite with some do good-er. (ugh) Normally when I read a book I tend to really enjoy the antiheroes, but the way this society is, I find myself grasping for someone with a good moral compass. (yikes, I hope this doesn't stick ) Strange how the environment of the story can change what attributes you look for in characters that you want to hone in on. But I have found a nice middle of the way character who has been enjoyable, and that is Zaknafein Do'Urden. He plays by the drow society rules, but to his own beat. (rebels, anti heroes... what can I say I don't stray far from what I like).

Be Well,
