Homeland Day 5

Dear odyssean followers,

Today I find myself curious as to who created the drow. They are a hard race to understand. Now don't get me wrong, I love the backward morals and backstabbing of the drow. But I am really having trouble wrapping my mind around one particular trait, and that is with the female drows being the more masculine of the sexes.

Don't take this the wrong way, I am not a sexist. But how is it that the female drow are dominantly masculine and femininely beautiful? The drow women are portrayed as physically larger and stronger. Yet they have tremendous feminine beauty. It is as if they took the best parts of both sexes and mashed them into one, and males have now become weaker, smaller and can't even claim to be the "fairer sex" (poor drow men, not only are you the not so ascetically pleasing sex, your also smaller and weaker and your life has little to no value in this society) . Men basically get the scraps in this society.

So when I am reading words from drow females I imagine their voices more gruff and deep, and male drows with soft spoken, high pitched and gentle voices. And honestly I am not sure if that is what the author was aiming for. Given the characteristics that each sex is presented with, I find it to only be a natural occurrence.

I also find it very amusing that drow women look at potential mates the same way one might pick a dog to breed with another dog, and nothing more. I can't help but laugh at that spectacle. ( I think I will breed with this weak, ugly and small male drow because he isn't as weak, ugly or small as the rest of the majority. Now give me your pathetic seed you worthless creature!).

Aside from this little nuance and my incessant internal debate on proper vocal tone ranges for the characters, the drow have been a very fascinating and intimidating race to read about.

Be Well,
