Homeland Day 4

Dear odyssean followers,

I somehow managed not to post yesterday (bad blogger), but likely only a baby handful of people have read my blog so I wont have to worry too much about negative retaliation. I am still progressing through Homeland ( like I said, I am no speed reader). Though I read slow I do read, and sometimes funny things happen while I read. For instance, while I was reading the other day, I noticed my son playing a Junior RPG on-line called Adventure Quest Worlds (I said I like to read, I never said I was not easily distracted) with characters that seemed all to familiar. When I stood behind my son to get a better look I was surprised to see a bald drow character with two eye patches (yes you read that right, two eye patches) named Jorxlol ( sure sounds awfully close to a bald, single eye patch wearing drow I know, minus his musketeer hat).

The resemblance doesn't end at appearances and names either. As I continued to watch my son play his game, he engaged in the predetermined questions and answers with the character Jorxlol. At this point it becomes very obvious this was a sort of parody of Salvatore's work. As you will see.

Who Are You?
My name is Jorxlol. I am the leader of the elite assassin clan Breethen D'irt, the most feared assassin group in the underside. Even the bravest drow warrior will only whisper our name for fear that one of us will be in the shadows listening… and we usually are.

Why Are You Helping?
There are several very good reasons. First, Chaos Dragonlord Vath is powerful and pays well, but Elder Ironfist has paid me better from his hidden stores of gold. Dwarves always have a stash somewhere.

Second, most of Breethen D'irts assassination contracts come from rich drow wishing to do away other rich drow. If Vath unites them under his rule… there goes our business.

Lastly, the drow and dwarves have had a working friendship for centuries. I even have a few dwarven friends. Well… allies, really. More like people I know, I suppose.. Ok, fine… I haven't met any dwarves, but we undersides need to stick together.

Two Eye Patches?
There's a story behind that but it's Need-To-Know, and you don't need to know. When you've been an assassin as long as I have, you consider yourself lucky if you've only lost your eyes… besides, only the very worst assassins need to use their eyes.

Like I said pretty obvious, is it not? I guess the works of R.A. Salvatore are much more prolific that I had thought. I have to admit I was as giddy as a little boy to see characters from a story I love in a game my little boy plays. Its the little things in life that make me smile.

Be Well,

    1. Look at that, my first comment. You made my day!
Reading Homeland has been a slow plow, but an enjoyable one. The journey of becoming a blogger has been just as enjoyable as my journey through R.A. Salvatore's works. Thanks for stopping by, this was most motivating.
